2024 Guild Of Music Supervisors Awards nomination for Mike Turner and "Paint"

What a pleasant surprise this morning to learn that I had been nominated for a Guild of Music Supervisors award for the movie “Paint.”

I worked on “Paint” for nearly 2 years and I think we crafted a pretty special musical offering between the fantastic original score by Lyle Workman and the eclectic assortment of forgotten 70s hits (along with some pretty big ones) rounding out the soundtrack.

Recognition for your work is always nice and in the world of music supervision there just aren’t many official channels for that. Basically, The Emmys and the GMS Awards are the top honors in the field, (no Oscars for us yet) but the GMS Awards are a little extra special since it’s really a jury of your peers for music supervisors.

The competition in my category is pretty stiff with critical darlings like “Past Lives” and “Theater Camp” to contend with so I won’t hold my breath about winning, but it is still very cool to be nominated alongside so much talent and I’d put this soundtrack up against films with 3 times the budget any day. We’ll just have to see what happens at the awards show on March 3rd at The Wiltern in downtown LA!
