Trailer release: "Breakwater"

The official trailer for “Breakwater” just dropped and it’s got Dermot Mulroney like you’ve never seen him.

This will be a fun holiday watch if you’re into tense, scary thrillers. I love Mulroney as a villain. It’s such a fun change-up for the guy who has played the consummate romantic leading man since the mid-90s. Now he’s got an insane Ted Kazinski beard and a Max Cady (Cape Fear) criminal psychosis that propels this rollercoaster to its action-packed climax.

Musically, we have a beautifully sinister score composed by the iconic Spanish composer Roque Baños and some really fun needle drops supporting the rootsy/swampy Lynchian Americana vibes of the setting in North Carolina. I was still able to deviate from that theme in some fun unexpected ways with songs by the likes of Wang Chung and Fink. There is a wonderful on-camera performance of “Kissin’ and Cussin’” by Grammy Award-winning Broadway star Celia Rose Gooding which is probably my favorite scene in the film.

Personally, I love country and Americana music but it’s often so difficult to find a place for that genre in many of the projects that I work on so it was very fun to be able to work with so much of it in this film.

Check out the trailer below and then have a listen to the Spotify playlist with the songs from the movie. “Breakwater” is in theaters and on-demand on December 22nd
