“Radioheart: The Drive & Times of DJ Kevin Cole" / SIFF Premiere
Seattle International Film Festival / Friday May, 15th
Just back from a pretty great weekend in Seattle supporting the SIFF premiere “Radioheart: The Drive & Times of DJ Kevin Cole.” In fact, both my partner (Jonathan Lane) and I made the trip to rep Clearly Music in the PNW.
As a native Seattleite, both KEXP and Kevin Cole have been a constant presence in my life for as long as I can remember. It was a surprise and an honor when, in early 2024, director Peter Hilgendorf asked me to music-supervise this film memorializing a legend, not just in the Seattle music scene but in the global music and broadcasting community writ large.
Kevin’s life and career story in the music business is nothing short of remarkable, and it’s one that you would be forgiven for knowing little about since he hardly ever discusses most of it publicly.
From helping foster the career of Prince at the First Avenue Club in Minneapolis in the late 70s to breaking artists like Macklemore, Of Monsters and Men, Sigur Ros, and countless others on the KEXP airwaves in Seattle and around the world, Kevin has touched an astounding number of the most relevant music moments of the last 50 years.
Radioheart is a behind-the-curtains look into the life of one of the most important living arts and culture broadcasters, and a person who shaped what is arguably the most important radio station in the world. The film is a rare and entertaining treat and a reminder of just how powerful music can be.
The last two years on this project have been rewarding but tough at times. Music documentaries are difficult by their nature. Indie budgets and hit songs don’t usually go very well together. This one was particularly challenging given the overwhelming volume (and diversity) of music to juggle, but we got it over the finish line with a soundtrack I’m very proud of, to say the least. It’s chock full of bangers!
Seattle Magazine had some glowing words to say about the film after the SIFF premiere, which you can read if you click the image above.
Radioheart will be released commercially early next year, following a more comprehensive festival run around the world. We’re thrilled at the prospect of bringing this movie to a wider audience
