Here is the new trailer for a fascinating documentary by Academy award nominated director Leslie Iwerks (of Pixar Story fame) called “Citizen Hearst.” I was fortunate enough to get called in as a music consultant on this film by one of my favorite industry chums and former VP of music at Disney, Michael Fey.
The Hearst corporation is arguably the single most influential media empire in American history if not world-wide and Mr. William Randolph Hearst was himself quite a complex and controversial character -even becoming the influence for the film Citizen Kane.
This was a fun and relatively brief project for me, the highlight of which was certainly the period style re-record of the classic song “Sex And The Single Girl” originally performed by Fran Jeffries for the film of the same name. We found this incredible singer (Dannielle DeAndrea) and the team at APM studios did an amazing job of recreating a performance and recording that I dare say sounds almost more authentic than the original. Recording that style of music always makes me wish that more pop music these days used “big band” orchestration like that -there is just so much power in those grooves.
Anyway, the film debuts this month in the Hamptons (I mean, where else would it?) and will hopefully have wider distribution soon after that. Stay tuned!
